Led by Cornwall Enterprise and funded by Objective One, actnow offers unique financial help and support to the self employed and businesses in Cornwall:
• advice on getting connected to broadband and a rebate on the costs
• free, expert advice about how you can use Information & Communications
Technology (ICT) to improve your business
actnow started in April 2002 and was the first broadband partnership to be set up between the public and private sectors. Its aims were to bring broadband to 12 Cornish communities and to sign up 3,300 businesses to broadband by April 2005.
actnow has far exceeded these targets - 100 communities now have broadband access (all but one), representing over 99% of businesses in the County. Over 7,000 businesses – more than one in three - are using the technology and there are in excess of 63,000 connections in total.
The economic impact is clear - it is estimated that over 2,000 jobs have been created and that Cornwall's gross domestic product has benefited by more than £50 million.
