RURAL CORNWALL & ISLES OF SCILLY PARTNERSHIP (RCP)
In January 2003 the Rural Cornwall & Isles of Silly Partnership (RCP) began delivering funding to projects under the South West Regional Development Agency Rural Renaissance initiative. Strategic direction is provided by the 2003 Rural Economic Strategy, which is available here.
Main Aim
To contribute to the development of a sustainable and enhanced rural economy and to assist in maintaining and enhancing the well-being of our rural communities, whilst achieving an equitable balance between the competing interest for rural resources in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Strategy
The 2003 Rural Economic Strategy has been produced to set the direction for development to meet the holistic needs of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly during the next decade and is not aimed at any particular funding stream.
• Create sustainable, quality job opportunities.
• Support schemes (including co-operation and collaboration) which enable entrepreneurs and micro-businesses to develop their business and improve viability.
• Support community enterprises, facilities and groups that find innovative ways to deliver and provide access to services.
• Develop a sustainable and integrated transport network accessible to all.
• Encourage energy conservation and support sustainable energy production
• Maximise the economic contribution of quality Tourism, Leisure and Recreation.
• Support co-operation between relevant organisations to supply affordable homes for identified need.
• Promote and support sustainable economic development which utilises and enhances environmental capital.
Funding
The RCP has responsibility for the delivery the South West RDA Rural Renaissance initiative, which encompasses the economic development and regeneration needs of rural areas. The initiative aims to help rural communities in the South West respond to and influence economic change, by supporting the development and implementation of sustainable projects that use innovation and enterprise to:
• create prosperity and generate employment
• improve delivery and access to services; and realise the value of
the environment as an economic asset.
